'Beautiful location' highlighted in ad for new teacher

Raasay is served by a new £12m pier opened during a ceremony last year

A school's "beautiful location" on an island off Skye has been flagged up in a council's advert for a new head teacher for the primary.

The post at the school on Raasay comes with a salary of £45,024 and a remote allowance of £2,124 per annum.

In the advert, Highland Council said: "It is situated about a quarter of a mile north of the village of Inverarish in a beautiful location."

The local authority said the school overlooked the Sound of Raasay.

Skye's Cuillin hills are also visible from the building, the council added.

Raasay Primary School has a roll of 17 pupils, two class teachers and a one nursery pupil.

The isle is about a 20 minutes ferry crossing from Skye.

A new £12m ferry terminal for the island was officially opened in a ceremony in August last year.

Built in Churchton Bay, it replaced a slipway 1.5miles (2.5km) away at Suisnish built at the start of the 20th Century and upgraded in the 1970s.

The new terminal serves a Caledonian MacBrayne car ferry that sails between Sconser on Skye and Raasay.

Originally built to aid the transportation of iron ore from Raasay, the former slipway was in a poor state of repair.
