Ian Sykes wins Scottish mountain culture award

The founder of outdoor clothing and equipment shop Nevisport is the latest recipient of the Scottish Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture.

Ian Sykes is also a skier, climber, mountain rescue team member and also launched his own local radio station SkiFm, now called Nevis Radio.

Mr Sykes, from Fort William, was made an MBE in 1990.

His latest award has been announced ahead of this weekend's Fort William Mountain Festival.

Climber and inventor Hamish MacInnes was the first winner of the honour in 2008.

Remote locations film-maker Richard Else won the award in 2009 and mountaineer Jimmy Marshall last year.
