Car-free trips to remote parts of Scotland promoted

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland wants people to enjoy the country via public transport

Trips to the mountains and remote areas of Scotland using public transport are being promoted by the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS).

Exploring Scotland by Train, a series of articles uploaded onto the council's website, come at a time of rising petrol and diesel prices.

The pieces have been written by Tim Woods of Car Free Walks.

The walks include hills that can be reached from Corrour station which featured in the film Trainspotting.

The MCofS said it hoped the articles would inspire people to enjoy remote parts of Scotland without having to get there by car.

Walks featured so far include mountains and hills that can be reached from stations along the Glasgow to Fort William section of the West Highland Line.

From Corrour station on Rannoch Moor walkers can access Carn Dearg and Sgor Gaibhre.

Scenes for the 1996 film Trainspotting, which was directed by Danny Boyle and starred Ewen McGregor, were shot at Corrour.
