Noise complaint over Dounreay police firing range
- Published
Noise from a police firing range at the Dounreay nuclear complex has raised a rare complaint from the public, according to firm managing the site.
Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL) suspect the demolition of buildings on the site has removed a buffer to shots on the range.
Structures on the Caithness complex are being pulled down as part of the decommissioning of Dounreay.
The site is policed by the Civil Nuclear Constabulary.
The person who has complained has not been named, however, several houses and farms and the village of Reay are close to the site.
DSRL is investigating potential measures to reduce noise from the range.
The company said weapons used by the constabulary had not changed and suspected the loss of buildings that had screened the range had resulted in the complaint.
A DSRL spokesman added: "We recognise the importance of the firing range to the Civil Nuclear Constabulary and the training of its officers to the highest standards.
"We also want to be a good neighbour.
We're looking at ways to resolve this complaint in a way that meets both those objectives."
