An agreement has been reached which will see Fort William host a round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup for the next two years.
The sport's governing body, the UCI, has confirmed the competition would continue on the nearby Nevis Range ski facility at least until 2013.
Three hundred riders took part this year on a course which was upgraded at a cost of £100,000.
The organisers said the event contributed £2.5m to the local economy.
The two-day event draws about 20,000 spectators.
Sports Minister Shona Robison has welcomed the UCI's announcement.
