Asda starts work on new store in Inverness

Work has started on the Inverness site of Asda's first supermarket in the Highlands.

The chain said the store at Slackbuie on Inverness's Southern Distributor Road would create about 400 jobs when it opens in autumn 2012.

A burn will be diverted and roads built within the site in the first phase of work followed by construction of the 40,000 sq ft store in November.

Tesco hopes to complete its fourth store in Inverness this summer.

A petrol station and retail units will also be built at Slackbuie.
