Glasgow firm awarded Inverness flood work

Glasgow-based civil engineers RJ McLeod has won a £6.5m contract for the final phase of Highland Council's Inverness South West Flood Relief Scheme.

The last part of the £16m project lies between the city's Oldtown of Leys and the Alt na Skiah Burn.

Work is expected to start next month and last for 52 weeks.

The scheme deals with four key watercourses - Lochardil Burn, Slackbuie Channel, Slackbuie Springs and Alt na Skiah Burn.

Water from the four will eventually be channelled into the River Ness via the Holm Burn using large concrete culverts and wide open channels.

The council said work to replace a bridge on Dores Road as part of the project should be finished by this Christmas.
