Independent probe of Highlands and Islands fire service

  • Published

An independent investigation is to be mounted into Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service (HIFRS).

The fire board has agreed to spend £10,000 on the study.

HIFRS was been criticised in reports by the Accounts Commission and Grampian's chief fire officer for how it was run and the level of training for crews.

Fire board members and senior officers at HIFRS have said significant progress has been made in improving management and training.
