A project set up to help older people in remote and rural areas to have a greater say on the services they use has won a European Commission award.

Older People for Older People (O4O) is a collaboration between the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and the University of Aberdeen.

Among its ideas has been for people to come up with designs for care homes.

O40 was awarded a RegioStars 2012 Award at the Regions for Economic Change Conference in Brussels.

Kate Stephen, a former O4O coordinator, said she was delighted with the accolade.

The project's partners include organisations in Sweden, Finland, Greenland and Northern Ireland.
