Highland Council proposes Inverness control centre hub

  • Published

A new control centre hub bringing together local authority, NHS Highland, Scottish Water and emergency services staff has been suggested for Inverness.

Highland Council said the agencies could share new premises in the city, with each having their own control room within the building.

The local authority said this would help to deliver services "efficiently and collaboratively".

Council leader Drew Hendry has unveiled the proposal.

Staff at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, NHS Highland, Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service and Scottish Water could share the hub.

Mr Hendry said: "We believe that co-locating the control room in Inverness will enable the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to meet its strategic aims and demonstrate its commitment to communities in the north of Scotland."

Initially the proposal would involve co-locating the agencies' telephone response services and out-of-hours cover.
