Delegates will visit at an RSPB reserve in the Flow Country

The latest research on peatlands will be discussed at a four-day conference taking place in Caithness.

Scientists from across the UK will be among the 60 delegates.

The event, which runs until Friday, will be held in Thurso and at RSPB Scotland's reserve at Forsinard in the Flow Country.

The Flow Country is believed to be the largest area of blanket bog in the world, extending to 1,544 sq miles (4,000 sq km).

It covers parts of Caithness and the neighbouring county of Sutherland.

The conference has been organised by North Highland College UHI's Environmental Research Institute.

The University of Stirling is among organisations supporting the event.
