North Sea oil and gas services company Subsea 7 has been awarded a £270m contract to build a 37-mile (59.9km) pipeline and associated facilities.

The work will involve the firm's sites near Wick, in Aberdeen and at Leith.

Up to 140 people will be involved in the fabrication element of the contract.

The pipeline will be constructed for Premier Oil UK's Catcher field development east of Aberdeen. Subsea 7 starts work on the contract next year.

Subsea 7's office in Aberdeen will undertake the engineering and project management elements.

Fabrication will be at the company's Wick and Leith facilities.
