Rapist Duncan Begg jailed for eight years 'vile' attacks

A man who raped and assaulted two women has been jailed for eight years.

Duncan Begg was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow after being convicted of what a judge called "crimes of a vile nature".

The 43-year-old was found guilty of eight charges of tormenting his victims in the early 1990s while living in Wick, including indecently assaulting one woman while she was pregnant.

Begg was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Also known as Dreghorn, Begg had been living on Skye in recent years.

A two-week trial in Aberdeen heard how he had raped one woman after pouring a bottle of whisky over her, as well as attacking her while she was pregnant and burning her with a cigarette.

He also raped another woman having earlier once forced her outside naked.

Jailing him for eight years, Judge John Morris QC told Begg: "You were convicted of a series of serious sexual and violent crimes.

"A substantial custodial sentence is inevitable. The crimes here are of a particularly vile nature."
