Plan to replace Strontian Primary School deferred

New primary school units have been proposed for a site at Ardnamurchan High School

Highland councillors have deferred making a decision on whether to replace a primary school with units at a nearby high school.

Strontian Primary in Strontian in the north west Highlands was built in the mid-1970s and takes pupils from the Ardnamurchan and Morvern peninsulas.

The units have been proposed for a site at Ardnamurchan High School.

The primary school's parents' council asked for a deferral so other options for the school can be explored.

Highland Council officers had recommended that councillors agree that the school be accommodated in the new units.

The proposal would cost about £1.16m.

The 1970s building forms part of a wider complex, that includes the village hall.

Council officers said the local authority would work with the community to explore the future use and ownership of the hall.
