Jobs at Scottish Provincial Press at risk, says Unite

Twelve employees at newspaper publisher Scottish Provincial Press (SPP) face losing their jobs, Unite has said.

The union said the workers had been notified about redundancies after pre-press and design work was outsourced to a company in India.

Unite said those affected were long-serving staff in Inverness, Golspie and Wick.

SPP titles include the Inverness Courier, Highland News, Ross-shire Journal and North Star.

Unite said SPP played "an important role in the fabric of the Highlands and the north east".

A spokesperson for the union said the publisher promoted itself as a "local champion" so had a responsibility to its Scottish based workforce.

SPP has not commented.
