Scenes have been filmed in Caithness and Sutherland for a new short film about the Highland Clearances.

Last Footsteps of Home tells the story of a young woman who was among 80 people forced off land in Sutherland and emigrated to Canada in the 1800s.

Dundee-born actress Molly O'Brien, 18, plays the lead character Kate McPherson.

Scenes have been filmed at Balblair Woods in Golspie, Laidhay Croft Museum in Dunbeath and Sputie Burn in Brora.

Sutherland-born composer Robert Aitken, who is making the film, said filming had gone well and the production's crew were "delighted" with the scenes shot so far.

Once in Canada, Ms McPherson and the others cleared from Sutherland had to walk 100 miles (161kms) to the colony in wintry conditions in handmade snowshoes.

They were eventually settled in the Red River colony.
