- Published
The first commercial distillery in Harris, which is only the second in the Western Isles, has officially opened.
Sited overlooking the harbour in the centre of Tarbert, the distillery and visitor centre has created 20 jobs.
It will produce a single malt called The Hearach, the Gaelic word for an inhabitant of Harris, with the first bottling due for release in four years.
The distillery will also produce a gin made using sugar kelp seaweed harvested from around the Harris coastline.
