Ideas set out for future of Inverness Castle

One of the options for the future of Inverness Castle

Various ideas have been set out for potential future uses of Inverness Castle.

The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) makes use of most of the buildings on Castle Hill.

However, SCTS has begun exploring the possibility of relocating from the 19th Century buildings to a new site.

The Scottish government, Highland Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise are among bodies involved in looking at future uses of the castle.

Previously, there was a plan to turn the North Tower and its look-out, which are owned by Highland Council, into a new tourist attraction.

The castle could have a future use as a wedding venue

Public views have been sought on several options for the redevelopment of the whole site.

They include extending the nearby Inverness Museum and Art Gallery into some of the castle buildings to offer more space for exhibitions and catering facilities.

Turning parts of the building into self-catering accommodation and others into a wedding venue, are among other options.
