Dingwall Leisure Centre evacuated after fire breaks out

Dingwall Leisure Centre has been evacuated after a small electrical fire was discovered in the building's plant room.

The site's operator High Life Highland said staff reacted quickly and evacuated customers and personnel from the centre.

Twenty people were involved in the evacuation. The fire was found at about 12:10 and firefighters were called.

The centre will remain closed until further notice.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel and a CO2 extinguisher to deal with the fire.

It said the incident was dealt with quickly.

Leisure centre manager Lisa Macdonald said: "Centre staff reacted very quickly and the 20 customers and staff in the building at the time were evacuated safely in line with our emergency procedures.

"I would like to thank the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service personnel who attended the incident, they were at the scene within minutes of receiving the call."
