Why roads in Inverness are being painted green

Sections of roads in Inverness are being painted green in an effort to improve safety.

The project, which is being led by Highland Council, has funding from walking and cycling charity Sustrans.

Highland Council said the green areas highlighted the fact that the road space was shared between cyclists and cars.

Work is being carried out on Culduthel Road, where advisory cycle lanes are also planned.

Other work to be carried out include the widening of a footpath through a wood between Culduthel Avenue/Culduthel Park/Balnakyle Road so it can also be used by cyclists.

A new combined pedestrian/cyclist crossing is also be installed on Culduthel Road just north of Culduthel Mains Road, the council said.

Drummond Road has lanes marked out for cyclists, but not the green painted zones that have appeared on Culduthel Road and at Culthduthel Road's junctions with other roads.
