Apology over handling of Inverness cardiac centre closure

NHS Highland has apologised to users of the Highland Heartbeat Centre for the way it has handled plans to close the facility in Inverness.

The health board wants put the building to an alternative use and instead provide cardiac rehabilitation services on an outreach basis.

Campaigners opposed to the move have criticised the lack of consultation.

They have also accused the health board of an "asset grab" of a building paid for by public donations.

NHS Highland chairman David Alston said the health board had apologised at a meeting with campaigners for some of its "communications and handling" of why changes are needed.

He added: "We continue to be focussed on improving the services."
