Thirty-one people who lost their jobs after Highland Council moved a recycling contract to another company are being paid compensation.

Evanton-based William Munro Construction laid off the staff after the local authority transferred the work to the other firm.

Highland Council said it understood that 27 of the workers would be compensated before the weekend.

It said efforts were continuing to contact the remaining four.
