Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and coastguard helicopter have made a fresh search of Ben Nevis for a missing hillwalker.

Two other members of the man's party were rescued on Sunday evening by Lochaber MRT close to the summit.

Deteriorating weather and the risk of avalanche prevented the team from making further searches for the missing third member of the party.

Conditions on Ben Nevis on Monday were described as "very challenging".

Police Scotland's Insp Isla Campbell said: "We would urge any climbers or walkers who were on Ben Nevis on Sunday to report anything they believe may be of assistance to us as soon as possible.

"The conditions on Ben Nevis are currently very challenging and I would urge any walkers or climbers planning a trip to the area to take this into account."

A post on the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team's Facebook page said: "A further search was made today with assistance of 12 team members but poor visibility and a high avalanche risk hampered searching.

"Searching will continue when conditions permit."

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service has rated the avalanche hazard in Lochaber, which includes Ben Nevis, as "high".
