Portree on Skye was among the places affected by the power cut
Thousands of properties across Skye and North and South Uist were left without power after high winds on Tuesday.
Energy company SSEN said supplies had been restored to 13,000 customers.
SSEN had hoped to restore power to a remaining 3,000 homes on Wednesday morning, but has now said that is unlikely to happen before this evening.
Winds gusted to more than 70mph over the Western Isles and west Highlands on Tuesday. The Met Office issued a yellow "be aware" warning for the weather.
SSEN said conditions were "challenging" overnight. The need for emergency repairs has hampered efforts to restore electricity to all those affected.
A small number of schools on Skye, including Portree High School, are closed because of the power cut.
The SNP's leader at Westminster, Ross, Skye and Lochaber MP Ian Blackford, was also unable to dial into Prime Minister's Questions because of the power outage.
