A baby boy has died after a rescue operation at Ullapool Harbour.
Emergency services were alerted to a person in the water at about 13:20 on Monday.
Police Scotland said the baby was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by air ambulance but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The death was not being treated as suspicious. The BBC understands the boy was from a local family and was less than six months old.
It is thought the incident involved a pushchair.
Police said a report would be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
Local Highland councillor Liz Kraft said she wished to offer her deepest condolences to the boy's family.
She added: "The tragic incident would no doubt affect the whole community".
Scottish Ambulance Service sent two ambulances to the incident.
HM Coastguard teams from Ullapool, Achiltibuie and Inverness, Stornoway coastguard helicopter and RNLI Lochinver's lifeboat were also sent to the scene at Ullapool's Shore Street, a seafront area with shops and cafes.
Harbour staff assisted in the rescue operation.
