The uncertainty surrounding the future of RAF Lossiemouth could continue for at least several months.

Armed Forces Minister Nick Harvey told the Commons it was unlikely a decision on where to base Tornado aircraft would be taken before next spring.

The Ministry of Defence has said no decision has been reached about the Lossiemouth base's future.

It is feared RAF Lossiemouth's Tornados may be moved to the RAF Marham base in Norfolk.

Thousands of people took part in a march and rally in support of the Lossiemouth base on Sunday.

The campaign to secure the future of Lossiemouth comes amid fears for Moray's other RAF base at Kinloss, after the UK government announced it was cancelling the next generation of Nimrod reconnaissance aircraft, which would have been stationed there.

Prime Minister David Cameron has said members of the Moray Task Force will be invited to London to discuss concerns for the future of defence jobs.

Mr Cameron wrote in a letter to the authority's convener, George McIntyre, it had not been possible to meet before now due to other commitments.

The meeting will be arranged through Defence Secretary Liam Fox.
