Plans for an Olympic-sized swimming pool for Aberdeen have received a £100,000 funding boost.

Transport company FirstGroup made the donation towards the project at the former Linksfield Academy.

The pool has secured £20m from sources including Aberdeen City Council, the University of Aberdeen and Sportscotland.

It is claimed about another £4m of funding would allow the project to fulfil its potential.

Inverurie's Commonwealth Games gold medal swimmer Hannah Miley welcomed the donation.

She said: "I am delighted that the aquatic centre is one step closer.

"Having such a facility in the north east of Scotland will help develop swimming across the area."

First's chief executive Tim O'Toole said he hoped other companies would also support the 50m pool.

It will also have diving facilities.
