Aberdeen City Council reaches spending agreement

Lib Dem and SNP group leaders John Stewart and Kevin Stewart came to an agreement

The Liberal Democrat/SNP administration at Aberdeen City Council has come to an agreement over spending ahead of this week's budget.

It had been thought the coalition could break down after the SNP group came out against plans for 900 compulsory redundancies.

Some capital projects were also at risk of delay or being abandoned.

The administration has now confirmed its commitment to projects such as an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

However, future compulsory redundancies have not been ruled out.

The budget for next year is expected to be set on Thursday.

The council earlier said there was "no alternative" to the cuts as it had to make budget savings of £120m over the next five years.
