Three Orkney schools face closure over budget cuts

Three schools in Orkney have been earmarked for possible closure by the local authority as part of budget saving proposals.

The primary schools in Burray and Stenness, and the secondary department at North Walls, are involved.

Members of Orkney Islands Council's education committee will meet on 13 April to discuss the schools' futures.

Officials have already carried out an evaluation of all 22 of Orkney's schools.

Members of the education committee will be asked to approve a more detailed study of the future of the three schools.

The number of pupils attending Orkney's schools has fallen by 400 over the past 10 years.
