A bulldog who stars in an online blog and acts as a "therapy pet" for residents of an Aberdeenshire retirement community has been hailed a "revelation" after his first year.

Humphrey was three months old when he moved to the Inchmarlo Continuing Care Retirement Community, near Banchory.

His role features in the online journal called Diary of a Bulldog, external.

Staff said Humphrey had become a firm favourite with residents and was helping therapy.

Charles Skene, chairman of the Skene Group which operates the facility, said: "Humphrey has quite simply been a revelation.

"He has been a big hit with many of our residents who cannot wait to see him again and again.

"Humphrey offers comfort, companionship and friendship to those who sometimes cannot express themselves due to communication difficulties or illness.

"He has a fantastic ability to make people smile and it can be a very effective treatment."

Humphrey's blog, which featured on the BBC Scotland news website last year, has followers as far afield as America, Hong Kong and Thailand.
