Application for Scotland to Norway subsea cable

  • Published

An application for an onshore connection for a subsea electricity cable linking Scotland and Norway has been submitted.

A landing point around Peterhead is planned as part of the proposed new North Sea interconnector.

NorthConnect has submitted an application to National Grid Transmission.

SSE Interconnector, a subsidiary of Scottish and Southern Energy, is involved in the development company.

Energy giant Vattenfall is also involved.

NorthConnect said the move marked a "further milestone" in the progress of developing the interconnector.

First Minister Alex Salmond has previously described an integrated grid as essential to Europe's sustainable energy policy.
