Application for Scotland to Norway subsea cable

An application for an onshore connection for a subsea electricity cable linking Scotland and Norway has been submitted.
A landing point around Peterhead is planned as part of the proposed new North Sea interconnector.
NorthConnect has submitted an application to National Grid Transmission.
SSE Interconnector, a subsidiary of Scottish and Southern Energy, is involved in the development company.
Energy giant Vattenfall is also involved.
NorthConnect said the move marked a "further milestone" in the progress of developing the interconnector.
First Minister Alex Salmond has previously described an integrated grid as essential to Europe's sustainable energy policy.
