A man who conned people out of £53,000 by fraudulently selling caravans at a Moray holiday park has started paying it back, a court has heard.

Neale Rothera, 36, collected money from four women and three men for caravans that belonged to other people.

The consultant sales manager pretended he owned the holiday homes at Silver Sands in Lossiemouth.

Rothera, of Wymeswold, Leicestershire, previously admitted fraud at Elgin Sheriff Court.

The fraud came to light in 2009 when it emerged that some static caravans at the site had multiple owners.

Shahid Latif, defending, said his client had a cheque for £5,000 to pay to the court as part payment for compensation.

The court heard Rothera was also in the process of cashing in a pension policy worth £21,000 and would have the cash in four weeks.

The case was further deferred for the money to be handed over.

Rothera was working at the time as a self-employed consultant sales manager with Green Parcs Ltd.
