Two of the north east of Scotland's most notorious traffic problem areas are to receive £8m to help fund improvements.

The A96 at Inveramsay will get £5m towards work on the road which narrows down to a single lane when it passes under the rail bridge near Inverurie.

Aberdeen's Haudagain roundabout will receive £3m to take forward work to improve the notorious bottleneck.

The funding awards were announced by Transport Minister Keith Brown.

He said: "£5m is being invested towards the £12-£15m Inveramsay Bridge on the A96 to ensure that work on an improved structure can begin.

"This funding will go a significant way towards funding the construction costs for the scheme.

"We are also allocating £3m to take forward, at the appropriate time, the design work to improve the Haudagain roundabout."
