Golfer Paul Lawrie has a new coach - but it is nothing to do with his swing.

The Aberdonian, who famously won The Open in 1999, has had a coach named after him by FirstGroup to honour his career.

FirstGroup said it took the step to recognise "his achievements on the golf course and his tremendous service to Scottish golf".

Lawrie has enjoyed a recent resurgence, beating a high-class field to win the Qatar Masters earlier this month.

It moved him into the world's top 50.

He said: "I'm both astonished and very surprised with the gesture. I am very humbled."

FirstGroup's marketing manager Avril Gill said she hoped the coach would "remind people that Paul is one of the finest golfers Scotland has produced".
