Nearly a third of Shetland schools could be closed

Fresh proposals to close nearly a third of Shetland's schools over the next four years have been published.

The plans, to go before councillors next week, include shutting five junior secondary schools and five primaries.

On the table are proposals to save about £3.25m by introducing the closures over three phases.

If the new Blueprint for Education in Shetland is approved it would leave one junior high in Yell, and two high schools in Brae and Lerwick.
