BT invests £8m to improve broadband in Northern Isles and far north

Broadband connections on the Northern Isles and far north are to be improved through an £8m investment from BT.

The company said it would lay cables from Inverness, through Easter Ross and Caithness, and replace the microwave radio link with Orkney and Shetland.

It said broadband speeds from early next year should be up to double those which are currently available.

Kirkwall, Lerwick, Dingwall, Tain, Thurso, Alness and Invergordon are set to benefit.
