Plans for Highland Games discovery centre in Braemer

A Highland Games discovery centre is being planned in Braemar.

The Royal Deeside location is home to the famous annual Braemar Gathering, attended by members of the Royal family.

The aim for the new centre is to reflect the "cultural significance" of these occasions to Scotland.

David Geddes, president of Braemar Royal Highland Society, said: "Braemar seems the right place to showcase Highland Games."

He explained: "We want to give people the chance to experience what it's like to be a competitor on games day and to understand the skill and hard work it needs."

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh attended the Braemar Gathering last month.
