Two paths at the St Cyrus nature reserve in Angus closed

The landslip was caused by the unseasonably wet weather

Two paths at the St Cyrus nature reserve in Angus have been closed until further notice because the cliff has become unstable.

Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) said the unseasonably wet weather had caused landslips which damaged the paths.

Reserve Manager Therese Alampo said: "There is a high chance that further slips may occur, so we'd advise people to stay off the closed paths."

SNH say a safety assessment will be carried out before any repairs.

The Nor trail leading from Woodston to Rockhall was closed after December's wet weather.

Ms Alampo said: "We're very concerned that people may still be using this path, as the damage and risks may not be obviously seen from the top or bottom of the cliff."

Another cliff trail leading from Woodston, locally known as the donkey path, also sustained damage and remains closed.

The St Cyrus reserve is home to grasslands, rare flowers and butterflies and moths.

It is one of 50 National Nature Reserves in Scotland.
