Mother's fears over son's crematorium ashes

A mother has said she fears she has been misled after being told there were no ashes left when her three-year-old son was cremated in Aberdeen.

It follows claims made in a BBC investigation that no ashes were recovered from 24 infants cremated in Aberdeen over a five year period.

Corey Walker, of Newmachar, said she was told that, because her son George was so young, there were no ashes.

She said she would now be trying to find out what happened.

Aberdeen City Council has announced an audit into the operation at the Hazlehead crematorium.

The council insists that the burners at Hazlehead - which are also used for adult cremations - leave no remains of infants up to 18 months old.

But it said that a precautionary independent review was being carried out for the sake of openness and transparency.

It said it would be inappropriate to comment on individual cases.
