The funeral of Aberdeen MSP Brian Adam is to take place on Friday, it has been announced.

The Aberdeen Donside Nationalist passed away last week, at the age of 64, after a battle with cancer.

The father-of-five's death will see a by-election.

The funeral takes place on Friday at 12:30 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Aberdeen where the MSP was a member.

His family said they want it to be a "celebration of Brian's life and legacy" and have asked mourners to avoid sombre clothing.

Collections will be taken for the Middlefield Community Project and Drugs Action - two charities the politician supported.

First Minister Alex Salmond said Mr Adam had been an "exceptional" MSP.
