Donald Trump Menie golf petition kept open by MSPs

A 19,000-signature petition calling for a public inquiry into the handling of Donald Trump's golf project in Aberdeenshire has been kept open by MSPs to allow them to seek comment.

Local protestor David Milne lodged the petition against the US tycoon's controversial development at Menie.

It describes the planning process as a "systematic failure".

Comment will be sought from organisations including Aberdeenshire Council.

Marine Scotland, Police Scotland, Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Natural Heritage will also be asked for their views.

Mr Milne told MSPs the local community had been a through a lot in recent years, and he was determined to see some good come from it.

The Trump Organisation described the petition as having "no basis".

The call for an inquiry was at Holyrood's public petitions committee on Tuesday morning.

The Trump Organisation recently submitted plans for an 18-hole course to the south of the existing course.
