NHS Grampian recruits new Aberdeen consultants amid shortage fears
- Published
NHS Grampian has recruited two new consultants to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary's emergency department following a warning that staff shortages could endanger patients.
Senior medics claimed they might not be able to continue their primary role of resuscitating the most seriously ill or injured patients.
The health board has told BBC Scotland two consultants have accepted jobs.
NHS Grampian said two locum consultants were also being offered posts.
The recruitment drive was launched as it emerged the number of senior A&E doctors could have dropped from 10 to two by August.
