Aberdeen's Christmas lights are in Union Street each year

Aberdeen will get its new Christmas lights despite earlier fears a legal wrangle could disrupt it, the council has said.

Doubts had been raised that the local authority could not sign a contract with an illuminations company.

However, following a hearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, the council said it now expected to be able to proceed.

The annual lights are a popular attraction along Union Street.

It was thought the council could have been prohibited from entering into a contract with its preferred bidder while a civil action brought by another firm was active.
