The start of drilling on the Loyal field - marking the start of a seven-year drilling campaign west of Shetland - has been announced.

BP said the semi-submersible Deepsea Aberdeen had been contracted to drill wells across the Loyal and Schiehallion fields, as part of the Quad204 development.

The firm's North Sea business regional president Trevor Garlick said it was an "exciting and important milestone".

BP and Shell share Loyal ownership.

The Schiehallion field ownership interest is split between Shell, BP and OMV.

The Deepsea Aberdeen is operated from Odfjell Drilling in Aberdeen.
