Work to repair a new road outside Inverurie - which has yet to open - will not get under way until the autumn.

The road was built to allow access to forthcoming housing developments to the north of the Aberdeenshire town.

It is joined by roundabouts to the roads linking the town with Oldmeldrum and Rothienorman.

However it was deemed to be unsafe by council officials amid fears high sided vehicles could tip over.

Aberdeenshire Council said it had agreed the scope of a redesign with the developer.

Detailed plans are expected in the next two weeks but they are subject to a statutory three-month notification period.

A spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said: "Unfortunately, this means remedial work is unlikely to begin until late September or early October."

The northern link road was built earlier this year but traffic has yet to be allowed to use it.
