Aberdeen trauma unit concerns raised at board meeting

Clinicians' concerns about the future of a trauma centre in Aberdeen have been raised at a meeting of NHS Grampian's board.

More than 50 doctors in the city have claimed people with the most serious injuries could be transferred to Edinburgh or Glasgow for care.

The board agreed there was a need for the Aberdeen facility.

The Scottish government said no decision has been made on the future of shape of major trauma care in Scotland.

A process was ongoing to identify "the most appropriate model", the government said, adding that a decision on this review would be made "in due course".

The clinicians in Aberdeen and surrounding area claim patients lives would be put at risk if the centre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary closed, and they believe such a move would result in a downgrading of the city's hospital.
