Plans for former Aberdeen school withdrawn

Plans to demolish a granite former primary school in Aberdeen to make way for homes have been withdrawn after planning officials recommended they be refused.

More than 260 objections were lodged against the proposals for Victoria Road school, which shut its doors in 2008.

There were objections to the housing plans on the grounds of what was said would be the loss of granite heritage.

Barratt North Scotland said it was working on a revised application.

Regional director Douglas McLeod said: "We have withdrawn our planning application from the Victoria Road site and are now working with local planners and officials on a revised application.

"We are disappointed with the result however are optimistic that we can offer a proposal for an appropriately designed development which will deliver much needed new homes whilst making use of new and existing granite."
