Orkney council staff in GMB ballot over pay plans

Staff working for Orkney Islands Council could take industrial action over pay proposals.

Members of the GMB union are being balloted on council proposals which include changes to payments for overtime and shift allowances.

The move is aimed at helping address an anticipated £9.5m shortfall in the local authority's budget.

The council said that no decisions had yet been made on the options, which are still at the consultation stage.
