Milne's High School is expected to open again on Monday

A Moray secondary school has been closed after an outbreak of coronavirus.

Moray Council said Milne's High in Fochabers had been shut to allow time for contact tracing to be carried out.

It said there were currently three known positive cases at the 408-pupil school, but a "significant" number of students and staff were self-isolating.

It comes as two primary schools in Dumfries and Galloway were also closed due to Covid-19.

The local authority said Collin Primary, near Dumfries, and Leswalt Primary, near Stranraer, were not expected to reopen again until 18 November.

'Precautionary measure'

It said a single case had been reported at Collin but due to the small size of the school - which has a roll of about 30 - the decision had been taken to close as a "precautionary measure".

Leswalt is another small school with about 40 pupils.

In Moray, Milne's High is expected to reopen as normal on Monday for those who can attend.

The council said it would continue to contact parents and carers directly with any further updates.

NHS Grampian said: "We're aware of the reported cases and the health protection team is working with the school."
