Unexploded World War Two grenade found in Stromness

An unexploded grenade found in Stromness in Orkney has been safely detonated on a beach by explosives experts.

The ordnance, dating from World War Two, was found near the Orkney Research and Innovation Campus.

A bomb disposal team arrived on Wednesday morning.

Road closures and diversions were in place for several hours and police had urged residents to keep clear of the area until the grenade was disposed of.
